Dr. Castle oversees designs and construction of the Department’s major construction program for projects greater than $20 million totalling over $1 billion annually of health, cemetery and supporting facilities that serve our Nation’s Veterans including seismic corrections, physical security, and historic preservation. Prior to joining the VA, he provided management consulting services to the public and private sector clients including the VA and the US Army and others. In his nearly 30-year Army career he served in a full spectrum of assignments in health facility planning, acquisition, design, construction and operations, and health plan acquisition. He commanded a community hospital and an academic medical center which anchored two regional health systems. He is a Veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom where he oversaw theater medical planning and medical evacuation for Coalition Forces in Afghanistan. His awards and decorations including the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (2 awards), Bronze Star, Expert Field Medical Badge, Office of the Secretary of Defense Identification Badge, Army Staff Badge, and Order of Military Medical Merit among numerous others. Dr. Castle is a native of Pittsburgh, PA.
